Is grass-fed meat really better?

As a health professional with an interest in nutrition I always wondered if grass-fed beef was better than consuming conventional meat. I have read that the main benefit of eating grass-fed as opposed to grain-fed was in the concentration of healthy fats, specifically Omega-3s. Omega-3 and 6 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fats essential for the promotion of health and prevention of disease. (1) Research shows that Omega-6 are known to be pro-inflammatory while Omega-3 are more anti-inflammatory. (2)

Thousands of studies have demonstrated evidence in support of these fatty acids in the restoration of health. According to Dr. James Chestnut, a Chiropractor and educator, if Omega-3s are essential for proper cellular function, and cellular function determines our health, then Omega 3 is required to achieve proper function. Wild caught fish is an excellent way to consume Omega-3 but the reality is most diets do not incorporate enough fish and toxicity in our ecosystem plays a factor in obtaining a clean source.
